A one-of-a-kind travel book, “Meghalaya Through the Prism of the Youth,” was launched on Friday at Army Public School, Shillong, capturing the untouched beauty of Meghalaya from the perspective of its youngest explorers.
This is no ordinary travel book. Created through an unprecedented collaboration between students, teachers, and Army officers, it marks the first literary initiative of its kind undertaken by any school in the region. The project blends experiential learning, environmental consciousness, and creative storytelling, all born from student-led field trips across the state.
Conceptualized by Brigadier Sandeep Dhupar, the book uncovers hidden corners of Meghalaya — serene landscapes and unexplored destinations far from the tourist trail. Through personal narratives, photographs, and research, the book celebrates the essence of Meghalaya in a way that’s fresh, authentic, and deeply rooted in local culture.
Tourism Minister Paul Lyngdoh released the book at a well-attended event, joined by Lt Gen Sanjay Malik, GOC 101 Area; Nivedita Malik, Zonal President, AWWA; Brig. Dhupar; and senior officers from HQ.
“This is learning beyond classrooms,” said an official, referring to the hands-on approach of the student authors. The project encourages respect for local traditions, highlights sustainable tourism, and offers a dynamic window into cultural revival — all through the lens of the youth.
With its vivid imagery and rich storytelling, “Meghalaya Through the Prism of the Youth” is more than just a travelogue. It’s a bold statement on what happens when education meets exploration.
