Roku, Inc., a leading TV streaming platform in the U.S., Canada, and Mexico, announced a comprehensive update to its device lineup and software features. Roku, which serves over 90 million households worldwide, introduced new streaming players, Roku-made TVs, smart home products, and a projector reference design, alongside platform enhancements aimed at improving user experience. In the United States, Roku is in over half of all US homes with a broadband connection.
Roku invited Cord Cutters News to get a first look at these new announcements. We would like to thank Roku for making that possible. Roku does not see or approve videos or stories before publishing. Opinions are our own.
Homescreen Updates
The updated Roku Experience includes features designed to make content discovery more intuitive. A new “Coming Soon to Theaters” row will highlight upcoming cinematic releases, while personalized sports highlights aim to cater to individual viewer preferences. These updates are part of Roku’s ongoing effort to refine its platform, which reaches more than half of U.S. broadband households.
New Streaming Players
Roku’s new streaming players, the HD Roku Streaming Stick for just $29.99 and the 4K Roku Streaming Stick Plus for $39.99, are notably compact—over 35% smaller than competing devices—while maintaining high performance.
Roku says these new sticks are far more power efficient and can be powered by the USB plug on your TV no need to plug it into a wall socket.
Both new devices are available for pre-order now and will be released on May 6, 2025.
Updated Roku TVs
Roku also introduced enhancements to its Roku-made TVs, incorporating hardware innovations for improved viewing. This takes the Roku TV Plus line and Pro line to update them with improved hardware. These new TVs do come with the new Pro remote with built-in rechargeable batteries.
Roku is also rolling out a new picture mode that will give you the best image for what you are watching. 91% of Roku owners have never edited their picture mode. Now, with this improved automatic mode selection, you will get the best image for what you are watching automatically. Detecting movies, TV shows, sports, and more.
The new miniLED design is far better than older Roku TVs. Helping upgrade their TV offerings with better images with its top-of-the-line Pro TVs.
Roku now has 35 brands making Roku TVs and will launch hundreds of new TVs in 2025 from all of their partners around the world.
Smart Home Update
Additionally, Roku expanded its Smart Home ecosystem with the Roku Battery Camera and Roku Battery Camera Plus, which require no plugs and offer extended battery life for indoor and outdoor use. The Plus model offers up to two years of battery life and can be paired with a solar panel. Roku is also updating its Roku OS to automatically display any motion detected when monitoring the cameras.
Roku also now offers a picture-in-picture that lets you pin a camera feed on your Roku TV, letting you watch your camera pinned in the corner as you watch your favorite TV show, so you can monitor the kids’ room or the front door for your food delivery.
Projectors
In a move to diversify its offerings, Roku announced a Roku TV Smart Projector reference design, which will be available to its TV partners. Further details on the projector initiative are expected soon.
International Plans
Globally, Roku is expanding its reach. In Canada, the U.K., and Brazil, the company will launch the Roku Streaming Stick and Roku Streaming Stick Plus. Mexico will gain access to these players and a new Sports Zone feature, providing a centralized hub for sports content. Central and South American markets, will also see the updated player lineup.
“As we step into the new streaming-first era, our focus at Roku is where it’s been since day one: redefining what streaming can be,” said Anthony Wood, CEO and Founder at Roku. “With our intuitive interface, unmatched scale and insights, and cutting-edge innovation, the full Roku Experience doesn’t just meet expectations—it sets a new standard. I’m proud of how far we’ve come, and I’m even more excited about where we’re headed next.”
“Our mission remains the same—to deliver better TV for everyone,” said Mustafa Ozgen, President of Devices, Product & Technology at Roku. “With this new device lineup and beyond, we are changing the future of television, with streaming that is seamless, innovative, and enjoyable.”
Roku’s latest updates reflect its strategy to maintain leadership in the streaming industry while expanding its global footprint. The company continues to prioritize accessibility and innovation, aiming to enhance television viewing for a diverse audience.
