TV show Poker Face is popping up in New York City with a gas station restaurant and roadside stop at Manhattan’s Mobil gas station and restaurant Smacking Burger in May 2025.
Manhattan’s only gas station operating below 14th Street is transforming into a roadside restaurant pop-up from Peacock’s acclaimed series Poker Face later this month. The Mobil gas station and Smacking Burger restaurant at 51-63 Eighth Avenue, between West 13th and Horatio streets, will become the Charlie Cale’s Back on Her BLSHT Rest Stop (a mouthful) on Friday, May 9, and Saturday, May 10.
Smacking will offer two burgers, one meat and one vegetarian, which are free to the public (limit one per person). Elsewhere is the vintage Plymouth Barracuda car that the show’s protagonist Charlie Cale (played by the very-New York actor Natasha Lyonne) uses to travel around the country solving mysteries. The second season premieres on Thursday, May 8. Hours are from 2 to 8 p.m. on May 9 and noon to 8 p.m. May 10.
Wanna learn how to make (and eat) bagels?
Upper West Side grocery store Fairway Market is hosting weekly bagel-making classes with baker Reva Castillenti via trade organization BagelUp starting this month. Attendees will learn how to make New York-style bagels from rolling the dough to baking the bread. There are also tastings and bagels to take home. The $150 two-hour classes take place weekly on Sundays at 10 a.m., with capacity for 24 people, starting on May 4.
International recognition for a bunch of New York City bars
The North America’s 50 Best Bars Awards 2025 list was announced earlier this week. For New York City purposes, Mexican cocktail bar Superbueno placed second, which means it won the Best Bar in Northeast USA award as well. Then there’s Japanese cocktail bar Sip & Guzzle in fifth place (its first time on the rankings), rooftop cocktail bar Overstory was sixth, Eleven Madison Park’s Clemente Bar at 11th (winning it the Three Cents Best New Opening Award), and a lot more down the lengthy list.
