Mercedes Moné sent Bayley a message after she lost her WrestleMania spot – cagesideseats.com

The AEW star reached out to her friend and wrestling soulmate after WWE wrote Bayley out of a scheduled tag title match on this year’s ‘Mania — reportedly for non-injury reasons.
Prior to Night One of WrestleMania 41, WWE wrote Bayley out of her scheduled Night Two match. She was supposed to team with Lyra Valkyria to challenge Women’s Tag champs Liv Morgan & Raquel Rodriguez, but after Bayley was taken out by an unknown attacker or attackers, Valkyria was given until tonight (April 20) to find a new partner.
Word on the sheets (PWInsider Elite, to be specific) is that Bayley is healthy, and that her write off was an angle that’s been planned for at least a couple weeks. Speculation’s focused on Lyra coaxing her fellow Irishwoman and friendly NXT rival Becky Lynch back to the squared circle, which would make sense given Lynch went on hiatus after losing the Women’s World title to Morgan in a steel cage last May.
But it would be a tough beat for Bayley. She had a great WrestleMania moment last year, winning the Women’s title from IYO SKY. It wasn’t that long ago she got clowned by The Bellas despite being left off the WrestleMania 37 card, though. Then she missed the following year to a knee injury. Everyone wants a ‘Mania spot — only the biggest WWE stars can take them for granted.
Which is why we’re guessing AEW’s Mercedes Moné posted this shortly after Bayley was nixed from the WrestleMania 41 line-up…
Moné and Bayley go way back, of course. Back to when Mercedes was Sasha Banks, and they started their business-changing runs in NXT along with Lynch and Charlotte Flair. They fought with and against each other, and pushed WWE to pay attention to the Women’s Tag belts they’d lobbied for. She wasn’t partnered with Bayley at the time, but when Moné walked out of WWE in 2022, it was allegedly over booking issues with a Tag title run.
The two friends have also vowed to work together again.
We don’t speak emoji fluently in the Cageside offices, but we agreed this one roughly translates to “you should call me so we can talk business, because you being a healthy scratch from WrestleMania isn’t cool”. But again, we’re mostly olds, so we may be missing some nuance.
Fan reaction to The C.E.O.’s message is mixed… not surprising given it involves AEW and WWE and was posted to X/Twitter where most people seem to be fans of one of those companies more than wrestling in general.
Will there ever be any more follow-up on it? Or was it just Mercedes doing some light ‘Mania trolling? Give us your reaction below.
