AEW International Champion Kenny Omega shared his thoughts on John Cena’s historic 17th world title victory at WWE WrestleMania 41.
John Cena made history this past weekend at WWE WrestleMania 41 by breaking Ric Flair’s record and capturing his 17th WWE championship. With help from Travis Scott, Cena defeated Cody Rhodes to win the WWE championship.
Reacting to the historic moment during his Twitch stream, AEW International Champion Kenny Omega was asked for his thoughts on Cena’s victory. “I didn’t see it, I couldn’t see it. I couldn’t see it. [smiles] I’m a huge Cena fan. To me, I don’t see it as a bad thing if it’s done correctly. I don’t know these things.” [H/T: Fightful]
John Cena promised to ruin professional wrestling after capturing the WWE Championship. But on the RAW following WrestleMania 41, Randy Orton interrupted those plans.
Orton confronted his former rival, then dropped him with a RKO. Now, all signs point to a potential showdown between Cena and Orton at WWE Backlash on May 10 at the Enterprise Center in St. Louis, Missouri.
John Cena explains why his retirement from WWE will be permanent
Speaking on on The Pat McAfee Show. When asked about the possibility of coming back for another match once his retirement tour ends at the end of this year, Cena made it abundantly clear why that’s not happening.
“And I’m a man of integrity, and I’m a man of my word. When I got in this business, and I started to have some success in this business, and I had to face almost being fired to come out clean on the other side.”
“When I won my first title, I made a promise, and back then, it was like mythical. We never think we’re gonna reach the end when we’re 20-something years old. I said, when I’m a step slower, I’m gone. If you watch my stuff from 2015 and you watch my stuff from today, I’m a step slower. So you know what? I’m gone.”
“Because I made that promise to these people behind me. And whether they like it or not, I know wrestling retirements aren’t real, because there’s always a payout involved. I’ve been in the business almost 25 years, and the business has been good to me.
“I’ve been smart with my money, and I will have a life without want, and I know how appreciated I am for that. I never once take that shit for granted. There is no amount of money, and there is not a check, and this is just a shot across the bow to any casino owner, to any territory owners, to any promotion owner, you can’t write me a check to bring me back.”
