A former first-team All-Big Ten linebacker for the Michigan Wolverines will be looking for love on national television.
66-year old Mel Owens has been announced as the next “Golden Bachelor.” The second season of the show will air on ABC and HULU with a premiere date to be announced at a later time.
Owens, who is from Detroit, played football for the Wolverines from 1977 to 1980. The Los Angeles Rams drafted him at ninth overall in the 1981 NFL draft.
Owens went on to play nine seasons in the NFL, all for the Rams, compiling a total of 26 and a half sacks for his career.
After football, Owens became a lawyer and moved to Orange County, California where he worked to help others seeking justice for sports-related injuries. Owens has two sons with his ex-wife.
