Australia’s national screen and performance training body the National Institute of Dramatic Arts (NIDA) has appointed television executive Hugh Baldwin as director of partnerships and engagement.
The appointment is part of a drive to extend NIDA’s collaboration with the industry in addition to raising its profile both locally and internationally.
Baldwin, an NIDA alumnus, joins from Flying Bark Productions’ young adult-oriented arm, After Bark, where he has served as executive producer of development across a slate of television series and feature films since mid-2023.
NIDA CEO Liz Hughes said securing Baldwin was a critical part of deepening engagement with industry partners. “Hugh brings a wealth of industry experience across the screen and performing arts sectors, brand-building expertise and a thorough knowledge of NIDA’s value to the creative sector,” she said.
Baldwin has extensive experience in the screen and entertainment sectors, having spent 15 years at Nickelodeon where he served as director of television across Australia and New Zealand and led the content strategy for MTV, Nickelodeon, Comedy Central and Spike under the Paramount banner.
He has worked as a writer, producer, and journalist, consulting technologist and was a former decade-long board member of Screen Tasmania.
Baldwin said: “I’ve always been truly grateful to have been a graduate of NIDA. I have experienced all aspects of the industry throughout my career and built a lot of great relationships, so I’m very happy to be able to have the opportunity to walk back through the doors of NIDA to take on this role.”
