Dynamite airs tonight (Apr. 23) with a live show from Lakefront Arena in New Orleans, Louisiana. This is the third episode of Dynamite during the seven week build towards Double or Nothing, which takes place on May 25.
The Young Bucks are back to beat AEW’s hot new stars
Matthew and Nicholas Jackson returned to AEW programming earlier this month to screw over Swerve Strickland in the main event of Dynasty. Now they are back in the ring on Dynamite tonight for their first AEW match in nearly six months. It’s the Young Bucks vs. “The Jet” Kevin Knight and “Speedball” Mike Bailey in a tag team match.
Bailey and Knight both officially became All Elite last month when they made their AEW debuts, but the company’s hot new stars will have their work cut out for them going up against arguably the greatest tag team of all time. It doesn’t help matters that Speedball and The Jet got under Ricochet’s skin last week, so he’s probably looking to hurt them at an important time. Could that time be tonight on Dynamite?
As far as the Bucks go, Jon Moxley recently threatened to make them disappear forever if they get involved in his business again. Do Nicholas and Matthew plan to address the Death Riders after this match is over, or will Strickland be hot on their trail and chase them away before they can speak? Will Hangman Page reveal how he really feels about the Bucks’ recent claim that they love him and are looking out for his best interests?
Tune into Dynamite to watch the next chapter in The Elite’s drama, and to see if AEW’s new underdog babyfaces can actually knock the Bucks off their perch.
The rest of tonight’s lineup
The second round of the women’s Owen Hart tournament wraps up tonight when Kris Statlander goes one-on-one with former world champion Jamie Hayter. The winner advances to the final to lose fight against undefeated TBS Champion Mercedes Mone. Does AEW plan to revisit Mercedes vs. Statlander after running the match on the final two PPVs of 2024, or is it time for a fresh opponent to take on the CEO?
FTR is scheduled to return from suspension this week after recently attacking a referee and trying to give Tony Schiavone a spike piledriver. Wrestling commentators getting attacked is all the rage this week, so maybe this time Dax Harwood and Cash Wheeler will actually get the job done when they return to Dynamite. Probably not, though, because I’d bet that The Paragon and/or Daniel Garcia are ready to run in and beat the shit out of Dax and Cash.
Finally, Master P announced that he will be in the house for Dynamite. He was involved in WCW’s No Limit Soldiers faction in 1999. How will he make his mark on AEW in 2025?
Other stuff to keep an eye
– AEW World Champion Jon Moxley is pissed off after Samoa Joe choked him out to help The Opps win the AEW world trios championship. Mox responded by issuing a world title challenge to Joe, which Samoa will certainly accept. Is Moxley vs. Joe going to be the main event of Double or Nothing, or will the match take place sooner than that?
– MJF channeled his inner Godfather last week when he tried to bribe the Hurt Syndicate with sex workers as well as the fancy watch off his wrist. It didn’t result in Shelton Benjamin or Bobby Lashley changing their minds about keeping him out of the faction, at least for now, but he seems to be growing on Shelton. What new pitch will MJF come up with tonight to convince the AEW world tag team champions that he fits right in when it comes to hurting people?
– AEW Women’s World Champion Toni Storm needs an opponent at Double or Nothing. Is she headed towards a rematch against Megan Bayne, who is busy squashing two women at a time on Collision?
– The Don Callis Family is growing in numbers after Josh Alexander joined up last week and Trent Beretta returned from injury as part of Rocky Romero’s heel turn. Will Don order his men to attack Hangman Page backstage so that Kyle Fletcher has an easier time when they square off in the second round of the men’s Owen Hart tournament?
– It sounds like Big Bill takes offense at Chris Jericho’s decision to abandon The Learning Tree for a while, whereas Bryan Keith wants to make things right with Chris. Whose approach will win out as Bill and Keith try to get on the same page during Jericho’s absence?
– This week’s episode of Collision is also being taped tonight, and AEW is going with a “Playoff Palooza” theme for the show since it’s start time on Saturday will be affected by the NBA playoffs. Will Tony Khan announce some new segments for the card besides Hologram’s return and a tornado tag team match between Top Flight and CRU?
– Which lucky wrestler on the AEW roster gets to humiliate Max Caster in his next Best Wrestler Alive open challenge?
– Where the f*** is Jack Perry?
What will you be looking for on Dynamite?
