In a surprise announcement, Michael Cole revealed during the WrestleMania 41 pre-show that WWE has acquired Mexican lucha libre promotion AAA.
The news comes shortly after WWE officially announced Worlds Collide, a cross-promotion event between NXT and AAA.
The acquisition is in partnership with Filip, a Mexican sports and entertainment holding company. No details were announced as of yet in terms of purchase price, key terms, and the company’s existing content and future events.
It’s WWE’s first such acquisition of this nature since purchasing WCW in 2001.
Levesque was flanked by Michael Cole, WWE’s contingent of Mexican wrestlers, AAA’s Vikingo, AAA GM Dorian Roldan Pena, AAA president Marisela Pena, and Fillip co-founder Alberto Fasja Cohen.
In a post shared to X later, Levesque thanked TKO executives for making the deal happen, adding, “This partnership will guarantee that AAA remains the premier destination for wrestling in Mexico.”
A partnership that will benefit the entire world of sports-entertainment. @luchalibreaaa has been a cultural mainstay in Mexico and the home to many @WWE Superstars. This partnership will guarantee that AAA remains the premier destination for wrestling in Mexico.

The AAA promotion was founded more than three decades ago in 1992 when Antonio Pena split with competitor CMLL. They previously had worked with TNA Wrestling, MLW and AEW with one of their most notable collaborations being with WCW for the 1994 When Worlds Collide event.
Pena passed away in October 2006 of a heart attack. Marisela is his sister while Dorian is his nephew.
Alumni include Eddie Guerrero, Konnan, Rey Mysterio Jr., Psicosis, La Parka and legends like Blue Panther, El Hijo del Santo, Octagon, and others.
There was a bit of history between AAA and WWE in the past with several AAA wrestlers appearing in the 1997 Royal Rumble.
