CJ Hester was one of the Minutemen’s most productive running backs in 2024.
A weekend visit resulted in a commitment for the Michigan football program.
CJ Hester, the productive running back who starred at the University of Massachusetts last season, gave his verbal pledge to the Wolverines on Saturday after the school’s spring game, a source confirmed to The Ann Arbor News/ MLive.
Hester, listed at 5 feet, 11 inches and 195 pounds, announced the decision with a post on social media Saturday evening. He will be immediately available to play this fall and has two seasons of college eligibility left.
The Cincinnati, Ohio, native played in 11 games for UMass last season, turning 119 carries into 529 yards and four touchdowns. Hester was first on the team in carries and second in rushing yards, trailing the leader by 54 yards.
Most notably, Hester’s best game came in a loss to Georgia in which he rushed 15 times for a season-high 74 yards.
A year earlier, Hester played at Western Michigan, where he appeared in seven games as a true freshman, going for 124 yards and two touchdowns.
Hester’s commitment comes three days after Michigan running back Ben Hall entered the transfer portal. He is expected to push for playing time as the Wolverines’ third option in the backfield, alongside sophomore Jordan Marshall and Alabama transfer Justice Haynes.
