Gwen Stefani’s recipe for a happy marriage apparently comes down to a single word: God. The No Doubt singer referenced her and Blake Shelton’s shared faith on a recent episode of The Drew Barrymore Show, four years after their 2021 wedding.
It all started when Barrymore asked her to share the best advice Stefani has ever received about love, to which Stefani replied, “Best advice would probably be make sure you have a third party.”
The singer then pointed upwards, implying that her third party of choice is the big man upstairs, a.k.a. God.

Shelton and Stefani first met as coaches on The Voice, the long-running singing competition that currently has Kelsea Ballerini, Adam Levine, John Legend, and Michael Bublé on its coaching roster. Stefani was married to Gavin Rossdale at the time; Shelton was married to Miranda Lambert. Both subsequently filed for divorce.
“I wasn’t trying to start a relationship, I was just trying to not die,” Stefani told Howard Stern one year after the duo started dating. “I had a horrible situation and something great came out of it.”
That same month, Shelton opened up to Billboard about their budding relationship. “Gwen saved my life,” he told the publication. “Who else on earth could understand going through a high-profile divorce from another musician? You can’t even imagine the similarities in our divorces.”

Aside from party planning, the duo have collaborated on a number of musical endeavors since coupling up, including Stefani’s “You Make Me Feel Like Christmas,” which featured Shelton, and Shelton’s “Nobody But You,” which featured Stefani. Oh, and they’re still “madly in love,” four years in.
“I kind of stopped checking things off my list of great accomplishments in my life when I married Gwen, so this is just icing on the cake,” Shelton said during his Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony. “I love you so much, and that’s the great thing that’s happened along this journey.”
